Manoa is a richly colored formal decorative dahlia in the deepest shades of wine red and burgundy. The dark, saturated petals have an almost velvety quality, giving the blooms remarkable depth and richness—especially beautiful against the plant's dark foliage.

The compact flowers are beautifully formed and carried on strong stems for cutting. For the best vase performance, Manoa benefits from being harvested before the blooms are fully open, just as the petals begin to unfurl. Cut at this stage, the flowers continue to open beautifully in the vase.

Why We Grow It: Manoa is about as close to red velvet as a flower can get. We love its rich, dark wine-red color and the velvety quality of the petals, which gives the blooms wonderful depth without reading as purple. The compact flowers are beautifully formed, and the dark foliage makes the entire plant handsome in the garden. For cutting, we harvest Manoa before it is completely open and let the blooms finish opening in the vase.
